An Interview With John
Western culture is adopting natural methods of healing as more people take up courses to learn about alternative practices such as Reiki. Melbourne teacher John Crundall, who travels the world conducting courses, describes Reiki (pronounced ray-key) as universal life/love energy that is inherent in all living things. When activated and applied for the purpose of healing, Reiki energy flows through the body, mind and spirit to accelerate the body’s natural healing ability. It opens the mind and spirit to the causes of pain and disease. The art of channeling energy through the hands was rediscovered by Japanese scholar Mikao Usui in the late 1800s. After many years of researching the work of great healers, including Jesus and the Buddha, and is being revived around the world. Reiki (literally, soul – power), as taught by Dr. Usui, has a simple set of procedures passed down from teacher to student. Reiki is not dogmatic. It is an oral tradition with very little written information, so it is interpreted by Reiki teachers. It is important to point out that Reiki is not mind power. “It is beyond the mind – its nature is the unseen power within each of us and as such it cannot be directed or manipulated in any way. Reiki bypasses the symptom and goes to the cause of the problem to allow healing. It works on that innate knowing part of us that has created, caused or participated in the problem, and therefore knows the antidote,’ he says. “It is complementary to other forms of healing or medication.”
